A Little Mizna Wada Art for Friday the Thirteenth

The other day I received a cute little package in the mail.

It came all the way from Japan and was filled with little art items.

Inside the hand sewn pouch was something even smaller.

This tiny hand painted Hina Doll fan created by artist Mizna Wada.

I will have to find a special place to display this very unique bit of art from one of my favorite artists.

Put a Bird in It

Living in this area makes one well aware that the phrase "put a bird on it" is being used for everything and feeling a bit over used. But the other day I found myself in the middle of a clever twist on it.

Put a Bird in It 10-12-13 13

I finally got to go to one of Laika Studios events. Which was held in conjunction with We Make PDX's "We Make Celebrates", their anniversary party. The main draw of this party is an auction they hold to benefit art and music education. So what do they auction?

Put a Bird in It 10-12-13 12

Bird houses. But not just any bird house. They have artists re-imagine the bird house.

The result was very creative. All kinds of bird houses. Here is a rather random look at some of them.

Here is We Make PDX's info on the results of the night and the We Make PDX site. This was an interesting event and I will have to see what they have in the future.

Rose City Comic Convention 2013

RCCC 9-21-13 1

My limited exposure to comics in Oregon was at a shop inundated by guys in black t-shirts. So I thought it would be at RCCC, otherwise known as Rose City Comic Convention in Portland.

RCCC 9-21-13 19

Thankfully that was not the case.

RCCC 9-21-13 18

I was rather surprised at the number of cosplayers and media fans that were here.

RCCC 9-21-13 16

Especially at the depth of quality many showed like these fan made droids.

RCCC 9-21-13 15

Definitely a place to be photographed.

RCCC 9-21-13 2

With accessories.

RCCC 9-21-13 4

It wasn't all mainstream.

RCCC 9-21-13 12

With enough variety in the booths to give many something to look at.

RCCC 9-21-13 11

From classic toy robots to talking pieces of wood.

RCCC 9-21-13 10

Animatronics anyone?

RCCC 9-21-13 9

Many artists of comic books and fan art were present.

RCCC 9-21-13 7

Plus you could find parts for your own dress-up desires.

RCCC 9-21-13 5

Sure there was mixing of fandoms.

RCCC 9-21-13 23

But who are you going to call?

RCCC 9-21-13 22

Perhaps this guy who spent three years making this amazing Ghostbusters Proton Pack complete with flashing and moving lights.

RCCC 9-21-13 21

Not to fear though, there was some anime there. Like this lovely girl who dressed as Maka Albern from Soul Eater.

h.NAOTO at AM2 Convention in Anaheim

h.NAOTO and Sixh. band members are joined by the Visual Kei group heidi. following their fashion show at the AM2 Convention in Anaheim, California back in July, 2011.

The h.NAOTO booth at the convention. They have been attending many conventions across America and doing well so now will be opening a store at the New People building in San Francisco. btw, I'm not getting anything for posting all this. Just like wearing their clothing.

h NAOTO 10

Eclectic is a good word to describe the various lines that fall under the h.NAOTO brand. From goth and punk to cartoon cats and lolita, plus more traditional Japanese fabrics and design elements, h.NAOTO has almost something for everyone.

Sixh. member and designer Mint was so nice to allow having his photo taken.

Twin Peaks 20th Anniversary Art Show

Twin Peaks 1

At Clifton's Cafeteria in Los Angeles, February 13th. Above print of a pin by David Lynch.

Twin Peaks 5

This was the reason for going to Clifton's the other day. Very glad we did go. Got to finally see some of Mr. Lynch's work and also photos by Richard Beymer. Would be great to see more of Mr. Beymer's photos in the future.

Twin Peaks 2

Very creative work there like this puzzle piece by Paul Chathem.

Twin Peaks 4

Which when spun enough ends up looking like this. Titled 'A Damn Good Cup Of Coffee'.

Twin Peaks 6

'Walk With Bob' by Tim Biskup.

Twin Peaks 7

'Cooper' by Jessica Joslin. You can see a bigger version if you click on the photo and then check the sizes on Flickr. This is amazing. It's a plastic bird skull btw.

Twin Peaks 8

'The Owls Are Not What They Seem' by Margaret Meyer. That's Bob in there.

Twin Peaks 9

'She Said' by Glenn Barr.

Twin Peaks 10

'Concentrating on the J's' by Scott Campbell. I really like this. Plus it reminded me about the donuts!

Twin Peaks 11

'A Small Logging Town' by Amy Casey.

Twin Peaks 12

'Audrey' by Stella Im Hultberg. Stunning portrait I think.

Twin Peaks 14

'Looks Like A Hog To Me' by Eric White. I dig the concept of making this like an older tv set.

Twin Peaks 13

Twin Peaks 15

'Crystal Deer' by Elizabeth McGrath.

Twin Peaks 16

One of Grace Zabriskie's very creative boxes.

Hope you found this a bit interesting. I did. Excellent location for this event.

Oh yeah, this was put on by Twin Peaks Productions. Their site for the show is here:

Even better is that they are selling merchandise related to Twin Peaks. Like Double R coffee cups, Great Northern Hotel stationary and Packard Saw Mill work aprons. Not sure if they are still selling the David Lynch coffee but one could ask if interested.
